Hampton- Aquatic Program Assistant

Hampton Family YMCA

Drowning is the second leading cause of unintentional injury death for children ages 1–14 — and at the YMCA, we're working to change that, one swimmer at a time. The Hampton Family YMCA's aquatic programs teach thousands of children and adults each year the life-saving skills of swimming technique, water safety, and confidence in and around the water. As an Aquatic Program Assistant, you will support certified swim instructors during swim lessons, Safety Around Water sessions, and other aquatic programming at the Hampton Family YMCA. You don't need to be a swim instructor — you just need a heart for service and a willingness to help children and families feel safe and supported in the water. What Volunteers Do: Assist certified swim instructors during lessons by helping participants feel comfortable and confident in the water. Responsibilities include supporting class setup and teardown, helping with participant check-in, encouraging swimmers during drills and activities, monitoring the pool deck area, and modeling the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. Volunteers will never be alone with a group of children — a certified instructor will always be present to guide the lesson.
